It could be a mid-engined hatch.
Hyundai continues to push forward with its N line of performance models, with the i30 Fastback N set to debut at the Paris Motor Show later in the year. But that’s just one of the many models Hyundai is working on. Albert Biermann, Hyundai-Kia’s head of vehicle testing, high-performance design and vehicle testing, stated that there is a mystery model that the automaker could approve in the coming months.
Biermann stated that there is a car available within the next two to three months, which we might have a chance of showing to Vice Chairman Chung [Eui–sun] as well as our top management.” Automotive News. “Depending on the mood and circumstances, we might get an spontaneous ‘OK to go for it’.”
The mystery N model could be the mid-engined hatchback – the RM16 N – we’ve seen testing at the Nurburgring. Biermann stated that the company was still working on the RM program, and that development was already underway for such a vehicle. It’s an interesting contender considering we have seen the mid-engined hatchback in testing. Although details are not available, the concept is very similar to what was seen in the wild.
The performance division has a fourth entry budgeted, possibly an SUV. Biermann stated to the publication that electrification was also possible.
He stated, “When we think about cars after 2021 as N, I believe we cannot avoid electrification.” “We will have an electric vehicle sooner or later. It’s all a matter timing.
N may soon have five performance options with a fourth model and possibly a mystery one. These two new models will join the I30 Fastback N and i30 N hatch.
Although the idea of a Hyundai mid-engined hatchback is exciting, it’s still several months away if the company decides to make the vehicle. Biermann stated that the vice chair of the company and other top managers could soon see the car – but not us civilians.
