An Elantra N road-going Elantra N is in development.
Remember the Elantra prototype that our spy caught back in June. The TCR-spec version was the compact sedan’s new counterpart, and Hyundai has officially introduced its new Touring Car. The new Touring Car joins Hyundai’s growing motorsport portfolio, which also includes TCR derivatives for the i30 N or Veloster N, as well as the crazy Veloster N ETCR equipped with a rear-wheel drive and a mid-mounted electrical motor.
The Elantra, a front-wheel-drive vehicle, is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine taken from roads cars. Although its output is unknown at the moment, TCR regulations require that it produce a maximum horsepower of approximately 340 hp (302 pound-feet) and peak torque of 410 Newton meters (302 pound). The newest TCR Hyundai will be powered by a paddle-shift six-speed gearbox.
The Elantra is not the only model that the South Korean marque is developing. A road-going N model will be available to replace the sporty N-Line. The warm version of the Elantra has 201 horsepower, but the full fat N model will offer up to 275 horsepower when it goes on sale in the United States for the model year 2022.
