The base price rises as a result.
While some models are still in demand for manual gearboxes, such as the Ford Bronco are being discontinued by many companies to make way for auto-only offerings. Hyundai just removed yet another three-pedal vehicle in its range. It’s the accent, which will not be available with a manual transmission until 2022.
CarsDirect reports that the small sedan will be exclusively available with a continuously-variable transmission and that means the base price of the 2022 Accent will increase by approximately $1,300. The base Accent SE grade with the manual option will be $17,670, compared to $16,400 for 2021 Accent SE with six-speed manual.
The Accent will continue to be Hyundai’s most affordable car in America, despite the increase in price. The sedan was given a 1.6-liter four cylinder engine that produced 120 horsepower (89 Kilowatts) & 113 pound-feet (153 Newton-meters). The inline-four engine is the only powertrain available for the model, although it’s not very powerful and provides good fuel economy.
The Accent is only available as a sedan in the United States. The hatchback was discontinued following the 2018 model year. The Accent was discontinued in Canada after the 2020 model-year. This left the Elantra as Canada’s entry-level sedan.
The Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) is Hyundai’s only transmission available for the 2022 Accent. The ‘box is equipped with a chain belt instead of a push-belt. The CVT was introduced in 2019 to replace the previous six-speed manual.
