A version with all-paws would be a strong contender against the VW Golf R.
Although the possibility of an all-wheel drive i30 N isn’t exactly news, Hyundai now confirms they are actually building and testing prototypes for a possible VW GolfR competitor. Guido Schenken (public relations manager at Cars guide) made the announcement regarding the possibility of an all-paw hot car. Adding an AWD layout to the car has been part the company’s strategy since day one.
Albert Biermann, N boss, previously stated that Hyundai’s gofaster division is serious in launching performance cars with AWD. The i30 N looks like it could be the first. If it is granted the green light, the i30N Fastback could also send power to both axles. The Veloster could theoretically be able to accommodate an all-wheel drive layout, as the hatchback closely resembles the two i30 models. Nothing is yet confirmed.
According to Biermann, Cars guide learned from a consultant that the all-wheel drive layout and rear suspension setup of the Kona can be used with the i30.
Hyundai’s performance division is exploring the possibility of a dual-clutch auto transmission. The DCT-equipped Hyundai i30 N was announced last March 2018. It is expected to be released in late 2019. A two-pedal Veloster N was also spotted at the Nurburgring last month, although we aren’t 100% certain.
This means that the future of the N looks bright: all-wheel drive and dual-clutch auto transmission. There may even be a halo, which is likely to be mid-engined.
