Hyundai introduces 1.6 Turbo GDI and Euro6 R-2.0 diesel engines

Hyundai has revealed new details about two of its upcoming engines, including the one used in the Veloster Turbo.

Hyundai has revealed new details about two of its upcoming engines.

The turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (the Gamma 1.6T-GDI) produces 204 horsepower (152 kW/ 207 PS) as well as 265 Nm (195lb-ft). The engine was built in-house at 69.5 billion won (60.6 million / EUR43.7million) and includes an intercooler and direct injection as well as variable valve timing. Although Hyundai did not provide any details about production, the engine will be available in the 2012 Veloster Turbo.

The R-2.0 diesel, on the other hand will produce 148 hp (1110 kW /150 PS) and 383 Nm (282 lbft) of torque. It’s Euro 6 compliant so additional information is not available. However, it will likely be used on a number of models.
