It is here. This is Hyundai’s first true luxury model, the Genesis G90 (EQ900 South Korea).
Hyundai will soon retire the Equus to make way for the new G90, which is a flagship model of the Genesis luxury sub-brand. The new G90 looks upscaler than the previous model thanks to its elongated hood, prominent hexagonal grille and chrome finish. The multi-spoke wheels add style and the vertically placed taillights that flow down the rear end are a nice touch. The exterior has many metallic accents that give it a premium feel. This feeling continues inside.
We don’t have many photos of the cabin yet, but we do know that Genesis will offer the G90 / EQ900 with a chocolate leather interior, lots of wood trim and a rear-seat entertainment system featuring 9.2-inch tablets. The center console goes from the front all the way to the back where the rear passengers control the electrically-operated seats and numerous other functions. The wheelbase has been extended by 4.5 inches (115mm) to 124.4 inch (3160mm). This creates significantly more rear legroom.
We were able to locate the G90’s Lexicon sound system, 12.3 inch infotainment screen and wireless charging in the South Korean press release. Genesis claims that NVH levels are lower than Equus, and the car has triple door seals, double-glass insulation, and other tweaks to ensure a quiet and comfortable ride.
The Genesis G90 will have three engines: a Lambda 3.8 GDi V6 GDi and a Lambda 3.3 v6 T-GDi V6. A Tau 5.0 V8 will power it. The new 3.3, which features a twin-turbo configuration and produces 370 horsepower (276 kW), and 377 lbft (510 Nm) respectively. The H-TRAC permanent all wheel drive system is also implemented.
The KDM-spec Genesis EQ900 sales will begin in the first half 2016 and the international G90 in the second half.
