This is a great idea!
It would be great to be able to park your car in a parking lot and walk to work because you have your “personal mobility vehicle” inside your trunk. Honda’s Motocompo folding bike fits in a Honda City since the 1980s.
You can still find some of this nifty combination at auctions or used vehicle listings, and even brand new. However, Hyundai could have something similar in the near future thanks to some patent filings that were discovered by The Drive.
The patents filed under the title “folding personal mobility device” were published on Patent Guru in 2017. However, publication only occurred in 2019. The device, which is quite small, can be fitted inside a Hyundai car trunk. Early filings show the scooter folded inside a door panel.
Although most patents previously published describe the folding mechanism of the scooter, later patents reveal the addition of batteries. This suggests that the scooter could be electrified. The Drive published the latest patent this month. It illustrates important details like charging and pedestrian safety.
According to patents, the Hyundai electric scooter would have charging mechanisms under its trunk. A fake engine sound will also be produced by it so that pedestrians are aware of its existence.
It is not clear if this personal mobility vehicle will be found inside a Hyundai Hyundai Tucson, or the new Santa Cruz non-pickup truck. Although patents rarely reach production, we are not denying that the idea is quite cool. Timeline is also a guessing game.
