This strange glitch affects 714 vehicles
This recall is not as dangerous as other automotive recalls. owners are not required to park their vehicles outside in case of an accident or a fire erupting. There’s no need to get out of your vehicle immediately. It’s not possible to be in danger of anything happening while driving. Some 2022 Hyundai Santa F owners might get behind the wheel and see their world fall apart. Probably.
Although the world will not be turned upside down, gauges and information from Santa Fe’s digital instrument cluster might. This glitch could affect 714 vehicles, including 293 hybrid and 421 hybrid plug-in hybrid models starting in 2022. Although there have been no injuries or accidents reported, Hyundai warns that this issue could lead to an increase in accident rates due to an obscured instrument panel. It doesn’t conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 101 for speedometers because it is difficult to read numbers upside-down.
Hyundai claims that the problem is caused by a defective resistor in the cluster. It’s apparently activated at “extremely low temperatures”. We don’t know enough to explain why cold resistors produce a 180-degree rotating digital screen. Hyundai claims it won’t happen when the vehicle is moving or on. Therefore, drivers shouldn’t be concerned about suddenly finding obscure gauges.
It is easy. The LCD screens on affected vehicles will be replaced by Hyundai at no cost. The recall affects Santa Fe models manufactured between October 25th, 2021 and December 1st, 2021. Customer notifications will start by February 25, though we suspect that if it does happen to you, it will be obvious.
