Over four years ago, the South Korean automaker teased a Santa Cruz pickup truck idea.

Hyundai teased the Santa Cruz pickup-truck concept four years ago at Detroit Auto Show 2015. Despite having green-lit production twice, a production version of the truck has not yet been produced. According to Michael O’Brien (vice president of product, corporate, and digital planning), production will most likely begin in the U.S.

O’Brien stated in an interview with Automotive News that the truck would have to be made in North America. O’Brien also noted that Trump’s fury at automakers producing vehicles in Mexico was reflected in O’Brien’s interview.

O’Brien spoke out candidly about the truck’s production but the company has not yet said when customers can expect the new vehicle.
