It could be electrified.
Yesterday was the day we got confirmation from a Hyundai spokesperson that the company will release a mid-engined sportscar in the coming years. A few hours later, CarAdvice heard from Albert Biermann (Hyundai’s global R&D chief) that a “very crazy car” was coming next year. Count us excited!
After several mid-engine concepts, the automaker appears to be ready to build a sports car. Biermann answered all questions about the new product, including whether it would be a sports car.
The following are some of the highlights. Veloster The RM19 concept, which is based on the RM19 model currently displayed in LA, uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged motor and a six speed sequential gearbox. However, it could be possible that the production version will use some form of electrification. Biermann made this clear during his speech at LA Auto Show.
Biermann stated that the company is developing prototypes for high-performance battery electric and fuel cell models in collaboration with Rimac to help us bring 44 eco-friendly models to market by 2025. “Our strategy equips Hyundai N for the future mobility and electrification challenges all manufacturers will face over the next few years.” These challenges offer Hyundai significant opportunities to show leadership.”
The RM19 sportscar concept can go from a standstill speed to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in under four seconds. It also reaches a top speed exceeding 155 mph (253 kph). We’ll be dealing a serious fast machine if the production model keeps the performance numbers from the study.
