Uber and the automaker have partnered on this concept. They want to create an urban air mobility network.
Consumer Electronics Expo Las Vegas has been a place where everyone can find gadgets they like. It has become a venue where automakers present new tech to automobile buyers. However, we are still puzzled by the Hyundai full-blown quad-rotor aircraft for Vegas-bound visitors.
We’re not just scratching our heads. Hyundai is taking a bold step into the worlds of mobility solutions. This includes the large tilt-rotor aircraft. Uber and Hyundai partnered to create this concept, also known as the Urban Air Taxi. It will transport people around cities. The vehicles will be manufactured by Hyundai, while Uber will manage the paperwork related to minor issues such as airspace control and connecting passengers on the ground with the air taxis. This is the stuff that will require you to arrive at least 90 minutes prior to your airport departure time.
This is a way to streamline the process so that ridesharing can fly without all the hassles associated with airports. Hyundai and Uber have agreed to work together on infrastructure for takeoff and landing of “this new type of vehicle.” Although there are already helicopter-type machines, that is not the point.
Is this possible? Hyundai is serious about having an Urban Air Mobility Division. However, this concept of an air taxi is still a dream. Similar ideas have been presented by other automakers about flying cars and air taxis. However, none of them seem to address the multitude of regulations and rules that govern all flying vehicles. This is why garages are filled SUVs and not personal mobility helicopters.
However, wowing people with flying cars is a great method to attract attention to new mobility projects and partnerships that have more traditional aspirations. Personal mobility has some connection to consumer-grade technology. This is why Hyundai will be displaying this insane concept in Las Vegas and why we are writing about it.
