The Accent has been canceled as well.
Hyundai will cease production of the Veloster Veloster in South Korea by July, according to a report from South Korean publication Hankyung citing undisclosed source.
The report states that Hyundai Motor Company will discontinue the Veloster nameplate, 11 years after its creation. This was done to increase Hyundai’s Kona production and sell the Elantra N (also known as Avante N) in Korea, its home country.
Following the earlier report that the original Ioniq hatchback would also cease production in July, the Veloster’s demise is now official.
The Veloster N is currently produced exclusively by Hyundai . This means that the standard version of the Veloster N has been dropped. It is currently being made at Hyundai’s Ulsan 1 production line, where the Kona assembly takes place. The death of the Veloster will allow for more room to produce the most successful nameplate with the arrival of next-generation Kona in the next year.
The publication also mentioned the preference of the market – both global and local – for Elantra N. This is quite understandable considering that these two cars are very similar in terms of performance.
The next-generation Hyundai Kona has been seen on public roads numerous times, the latest sighting showing less camouflage. The split-headlight configuration appears to be retained by the second-generation Kona.
Given that the Kona facelifted model was only introduced in late 2020, it is expected that the next Kona will finally be revealed in its entirety in 2023. There is no confirmation yet on the schedule, so we will keep our ears open for any official announcement. The new model will most likely include hybrid and electric versions.
