Hyundai Veloster N TR is Track-Ready in Detroit with 350 HP [UPDATE]

Are you ready to fight the Golf GTI TCR and Civic Type R TCR?

Following the success of Bryan Herta Autosport’s previous season with N TCR, which won both the Team- and Manufacturer Championships in the 2018 Pirelli Challenge TCR class, Hyundai will unveil its TCR competitor at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. In the 2019 International Motor Sports Association’s Michelin Pilot Challenge, the Veloster TCR will be competing against the Honda Civic Type R TCR and Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Herta’s team will provide two vehicles for the season. One will be piloted and driven by Mark Wilkins and Michael Lewis, while Mark Wilkins and Mason Filippi, both aged 20 and 18, respectively. They will share 85 percent of their core parts with the i30 TCR. This includes the turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 350 horsepower (261 kilowatts).

A turbo direct-injection engine and a six-speed sequential transmission transmit power to the front axle. An external preload adjuster controls the torque between the wheels. The brake discs provide stopping power with a 380mm ventilated front and 278mm rear. They have six-piston Brembo Brembo calipers for the front wheels, and two-piston Brembo Brembo calipers for the rear.

Dean Evans, vice-president, Marketing, Hyundai Motor America, stated that the Veloster was a great fit for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge. This is an opportunity to expand our motorsports efforts. The all-new 2019 Veloster N and Veloster N are fun and easy-to-drive cars. We’re grateful to Bryan and his team for introducing them to North American racing fans. We won the manufacturer’s championship in 2018, so it is great for us to return to racing with our veterans, two great young drivers, as well as this new car.

You can order the Veloster N TCR at an estimated price of EUR135,000 plus shipping, or about $155,000 at current exchange rates. Deliveries to customers are expected to start in March.
