IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award for Mitsubishi Outlander

This award is for US-spec models that were built after June 2021.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the latest Mitsubishi the highest safety rating. The Mitsubishi Outlander has received a complete redesign for the 2022 model years. It was awarded the Top Safety Pick+ rating. This rating is only applicable to the gasoline version.

The rating is only applicable to Outlander models manufactured after June 2021. These models received adjustments to their headlight aiming. The new model received the citation because of its excellent collision safety performance, preventive safety performance, and crashworthiness evaluations in the IIHS front crash prevention tests and headlight evaluation.

The Outlander has a variety of safety features. These include advanced driver assistance systems called “MI-PILOT Assist”. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist(LKA) supports driving by keeping the vehicle in the middle of the lane and maintaining a following distance.

The curve information on the map, in conjunction with the car’s navigation system allows the vehicle’s speed to be automatically adjusted and lessens the driver’s burden.

Forward Collision Mitigation System (FCM), Predictive Forward Collision Warning(PFCW), Active Blind Spot Assist [ABSA], Lane Departure Warnings (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention are all passive safety systems. The Outlander comes with 11 airbags. These include the front center airbag for drivers and the side airbags to protect second-row passengers.

The Outlander PHEV’s redesign is underway. It will adopt the same styling and safety features as the non-electrified model. There is no information available about the model, but there was a teaser and confirmation that the 2023 OutlanderPHEV will have greater power and a bigger battery pack.
