Imagine if the Volvo XC40 would look like this.

We can see Volvo’s upcoming compact crossover XC40 in the U.S.

Volvo’s recent success can be attributed to its innovative design language, which was implemented in the second-gen XC90 as well as the S90 & V90 duo. Geely-owned Volvo plans to increase its range by adding the first-ever XC40 compact crossover, which will hopefully be as impressive as its larger brother.

Already spotted as a chassis test mule the U.S. bound XC40 has been digitally imagined in our speculative render almost as a smaller XC90. Although it is too early to know if that will be the case, it’s interesting to see how the XC90’s styling can adapt to the XC40.

Imagine if the Volvo XC40 would look like this.

We do know that the XC40 will be riding on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture. Some components will be derived from larger models’ SPA architecture (XC90 S90 and V90), while power will only come from four-cylinder engines. Volvo is also developing three-cylinder units for compact cars such as the XC40.

All models based on CMA will be built in Belgium at Volvo’s Ghent plant. However, Geely could make some at home in China. Next year will see the launch of the first CMA product. The range includes the V40 and S40 as well as the XC40. A long-wheelbase HTML40 is also being considered. Additionally, there may be a C40 coupe to make up the space left by the C30’s death.

Although it is not clear when the XC40 will debut, we will most likely see it in the second half 2018 as the compact crossover will launch after the next-generation V40 and S40.
