Three Volkswagen debuts are making waves in Qatar, a desert state. Veedub announced two additional concept studies based upon the Touareg SUV, following yesterday’s Formula XL1 unveil at the Qatar Motor Show.
The first study turns the agitated Race Touareg3 Dakar rally car into a calm, street-legal SUV. The Race Touareg 3 Qatar’s exterior is finished in “Magic Morning” metallic gold with gold flakes and Race Touareg graphics. The SUV’s 16-inch wheels are replaced by gold-painted 18-inch BBS wheels.
The interior was completely redesigned in order to achieve a “stealth” look. The interior is equipped with Recaro race seat upholstered in Nubuk leather and perforated Nappa. The door trim panels and other elements are also trimmed in Nubuk. The roll cage was painted in “Serpentino Grey Metallic”. The roll cage has been painted “Serpentino Grey Metallic”. The Race Touareg’s 310 PS (228kW / 306bhp), despite the extra weight, still manages to sprint to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 6 seconds.
The Touareg gold edition is the second study. It appeals to the extravagant side of the region. The SUV features 24-carat gold detailing on custom-designed 22-inch wheels, roof rails and window frames. The Gold Edition, like the Race Touareg, is also available in the “Magic Morning” body color.
The interior features 24-carat gold accents and switches. The roof gets an Alcantara header. Nappa leather and ornamental stitching are used for the seats. The dashboard is finished in natural brown leather with contrast seams in magnolia color. Walnut Burr accents can be found in the center console as well as door trim panels with genuine golden marquetry.
VW claims this SUV is among the most advanced in its class, despite the fact that it requires its own security team for outings on the streets.
