It could be here as early as 2021
The future of Infiniti is bold as the automaker says the Q Inspiration Concept will form the basis for an electrified vehicle platform.
Roland Krueger, Infiniti’s Global President and Chairman, says that Infiniti is creating a new platform to electrify vehicles based on the Q Inspiration Concept car. This vehicle shows the new design language of the age of autonomy as well as electrification. The Q Inspiration is a sporty, performance-oriented, electric vehicle that was designed with China in mind. It has a larger interior and more space.
The Q Inspiration Concept was unveiled by Infiniti earlier this year at Detroit Auto Show. The concept featured Infiniti’s VC-Turbo four-cylinder motor, which can change its compression under the hood. The Infiniti noted that the concept was “the first manifestation INFINITI’s new form language to an era of advanced motortrains.” A EV powertrain is a perfect fit.
It is unique in its design. The large grille, which is almost useless as an EV’s grille, features wide intakes at the front and lower fascia. The headlights with narrow, slits are tiny in comparison. The flowing roof flows to the fastback-like rear end. The integrated exhaust is subtle. It’s minimalist’s dream interior with its floating center console, large dashboard and contrasting accents. When the concept is put into production, the interior will be completely different.
Karim Habib (Infiniti Executive Designer Director), says that the Q Inspiration concept car “takes the traditional sedan architecture to its next phase of evolution.” We were able create an alternative form that is more fluid, engaging, and enriching in the experience. The concept marks a new era in INFINITI models with its long cabin and balanced proportions.
Although Infiniti has announced that an EV will be coming, other details are still unknown. We don’t know what type of electric powertrain this Q Inspiration-based production vehicle might receive. Infiniti has already pushed back the release date for an EV once. They won’t have to wait any longer, we hope.
