New teaser images show a never-before seen silver racer against a backdrop of 919 Street.
Porschehas a recipe for the IAA Munich Motor Show. It’s a concept car with a connection to motorsports, though we don’t know what it is. It’s also known that there is some star power involved in its debut. We think Porsche is showing this concept in the background of this image. We’ll get to that later.
This was almost a month ago. Porsche had announced in August that it would attend the revamped German car show. It will be presenting a future-oriented concept study. It’s not unusual for automakers to refer to the future when they make reference to electrification. Therefore, it’s safe to assume Porsche will attend the revamped German auto show with a “future-oriented concept study”. The earlier teaser image featured a similar headlight design to the Taycan. We’d wager a gazillion that this new concept is entirely electric.
Two new teaser images by Porsche further support this theory. The first is the auto show scene. The second features a long, narrow taillight with Porsche branding in its middle and a silver bumper. It could take design cues form a variety of current models, but the silver bumper is important.
The reason is that the second photo looks innocently like a Porsche booth at an event, but actually shows a silverish Porsche hidden behind a pillar to the left. It’s also right next to the backdrop reading 919 Street. This is very fascinating, so we zoomed in to get a better view.
You may remember Porsche unveiling its 919 Street almost a year ago in the Porsche Unseen Series. It was originally designed to be street legal version of the Porsche 919 race car. However, it never made it past the clay model stage. This clever Porsche auto show rendering could point us towards a 919-themed electric vehicle for the road and track.
It’s a great idea to have Patrick Dempsey, a Hollywood actor and occasional Porsche racer, present at the unveil. But here’s the real neck-snapper. Timo Bernhard will be Porsche’s debut driver. If that name sounds familiar, it is because he won Le Mans twice. He also won the second race in a Porsche 911 and also broke Stefan Bellof’s long-standing Nurburgring record. Yes, that record was set in an unrestricted Porsche 911 Evo .
This teaser is not the same as Porsche’s in August. Although the automaker claimed a concept related to motorsports was in the works, the image featured a red hood and not the silver bumper that we see today. Back then, we speculated that Porsche might have an electrified 718 Cayman and Boxster in development. It’s probable that two major debuts will be made by the Zuffenhausen crew.
All the details will be made public in a livestream on September 6. Motor1.com will livestream the event.
