Chevy Dude, a YouTube user, has interesting evidence to back up his claim.
We learned about the various seating options available for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette when it was unveiled in July. The GT1 is a sport leather seat with basic power controls, and plastic trim. It’s only available for the LT1 model. The GT2 seat has carbon fiber trim, ventilation and extra space for a racing harness. It’s also standard-issue on the LT2 & LT3 ‘Vettes. Although the GT2 seat is similar, the optional GT2 Competition seat has a more aggressive bolstering system and is covered with a different cloth.
Chevy Dude claims to have seen something unusual. Although the Competition seat isn’t equipped with power lumbar/bolster controls, he claims he witnessed one at an event and was impressed by the Alcantara covers and controls. He believes that Chevy may offer a fourth option for the Competition seat that combines the GT2’s comfort features with the seat’s hardcore design.
This has merit. To find out if this is just a matter of preproduction design differences, we reached out to Chevrolet. This is possible since all that we have seen so far on the C8 are technically preproduction. We could be seeing minor design differences between production and debut vehicles. This is a common occurrence in the industry. We don’t see the need to add a fourth seat option when there are three options. This suggests that GM also had similar concerns about the C8’s design. As if that wasn’t enough, the video shows us a surprise fifth option. It could be coming in 2021. An anonymous third party claimed that the seat was a combination of the GT1 seat and GT2 seat. This could be an upgrade to LT1 Corvettes.
This article will conclude by reminding everyone to take everything with a grain, and Chevy Dude’s credit for offering the same advice in his video. He seems to have identified a difference in the Competition seat. However, that could just be a preproduction hiccup. Only time will reveal what lies beyond.
