Subaru never offered a fully-equipped STI version for its BRZ sportscar. Although the STI-tuned BRZ tS has been offered by Japanese automaker, it has only received an upgraded look. There’s a new generation BRZ, and rumors suggest that Subaru might offer a BRZ STI version. A new video shows a camouflaged next generation BRZ, with a few performance upgrades.
It is not clear that this is an STI model. Subaru may be letting its STI team tune this new model, just as it did with the BRZ tS. The automaker has not yet indicated if it will offer a sports car with a higher performance. The new BRZ will continue to be naturally aspirated. It features a 2.4-liter four cylinder producing 228 horsepower (170 kilowatts), and 184 pound feet (249 Newton-meters). This is a difference of 11 and 15% over the 2.0-liter engine in the old car.
This will allow the car to overcome its slight weight increase. The car should reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. However, it is possible to have an STI version with a turbocharged version. This engine is already available in the Ascent UTV. It produces 260 horsepower (194 kW) as well as 277 lbft (356 Nm) of torque. This amount of power would definitely help to kick its rear end.
