It is literally the last of its kind.
Toyota has been busy promoting the 2021 Supra. They also have some massive discounts for the model year before. Don’t be shocked if you see a Supra billboard. It’s the flagship performance vehicle of Toyota, developed in collaboration with BMW. This Supra billboard is 27 years old, and you need to know the interesting story.
You can find a former warehouse in SoMa if you drive down Highway 101 in San Francisco. This is the spot where the giant billboard, which has been there since 1993, is making waves again almost 30 years after its original installation. It has been there for many years, with the Supra advertisement popping up every now and again. An article from theDrive shines a little more light.
Clear Channel Outdoor, a national display and billboard company, currently owns the billboard. Bob Schmitt, the firm’s regional president, was called by the online publication. He explained that billboard ads were hand-painted in the 1990s and that this Supra ad was one of the last ones before the company switched over to vinyl technology. CCO chose to use the Supra advertisement as a basis for future ads, rather than spending money and time painting it black.
Schmitt said that it takes approximately two hours to change out vinyl billboards, and this happens at random times. The 1993 Supra ad can be seen in a tiny window every now or then. In a year, it’s approximately six to eight hours. It’s only visible for a few seconds, which is why it has held up well.
