The classic roadster is now equipped with an electric motor and a battery pack.
Jaguar will begin production of its E Type Zero concept in 2020. Deliveries will start in the summer. They will be built to order by Jaguar’s Classic division, which can also convert interested owners’ cars to the electric drivetrain. Jag’s latest concept for zero-emissions models will be on display at Monterey Car Week to celebrate the announcement.
“We have been overwhelmed by the positive response to the Jaguar Etype Zero concept. Jaguar Classic’s future-proofing of classic car ownership is a key stepping stone,” Tim Hannig (Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director) said about the EV.
The final pricing and technical specifications for the E-Type Zero will not be released by the British automaker. The roadster’s 40-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery pack allows for a range of over 170 miles (274 km) at least in the concept. The EV can accelerate to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds. This makes it a second faster than the original. The new powertrain is also lighter at 176 pounds (80 kg).
The electric motor is located at the front. A new driveshaft transmits the output to an existing rear differential. The electric powertrain can be installed without modifying the car’s frame. If owners decide to switch to EVs, they can still use the inline-six.
LED headlights are the only visual change.
Jaguar Classic has a new digital instrument cluster inside and an optional modern-looking infotainment screen at the centre of the dashboard. The electric powertrain is a single-speed transmission. In its place, there is a rotary dial.
The E-Type Zero was probably seen at the royal marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle . After they tied the knot, the couple drove off from Windsor Castle.
