Jaguar J-Pace to Come In 2021 with Upgraded Range Rover Platform

China is the next target market for British brand Range Rover.

We first heard last week about Jaguar still not final plans for a larger SUV. Now, we have more details thanks to a report from Autocar. According to the British publication, the J-Pace (name not confirmed) will go on the market in 2021. It will be competing against the Porsche Cayenne.

Jaguar plans to launch a flagship SUV, inspired by the success of its Face model, which has been the brand’s most popular for decades. This SUV will be aimed at wealthy customers in China. It will be based upon the Land Rover Range Rover and will feature an all-aluminum design. The overall dimensions of the car will differ from the Land Rover Range Rover. Jag’s vehicle will have a longer and wider interior and be lower to the ground, which will allow for better handling on the road.

The J-Pace will get all the Range Rover powertrain options, including a plug-in hybrid system. But not starting from day one. The Jaguar design director Ian Callum will design the new design language for the J-Pace.

“All options are available, provided it delivers the Jaguar values. Is it able to deliver Jaguar’s performance promise? It will, it’s on our table,” Matthew Wiesner, JLR’s Australia managing Director, said earlier this month about the new SUV.

British automaker Jaguar is also planning to give the F-Pace a much-needed facelift. This will happen next year, and coincides with the launch of the hybrid model. The launch of a new generation of Jag’s most popular model, which saw more than 70,000 sales last year, is scheduled for 2022.

Jaguar currently sells between 150,000 and 160,000 vehicles per year. Land Rover has more than 600,000. This is impressive considering JLR’s collapse in the financial crisis. However, Tata bosses aim to sell more than one million total group units.
