Jaguar says it won’t happen but what if?
The Jaguar F-Pace will soon get the SVR high-performance treatment. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same about the XF. This shows that SUVs have risen to the top of the priority list, not only at Jaguar but also at many other mainstream and premium automakers. Rumours circulated about the possibility of an XF SVR with the more practical Sportbrake body style in order to compete against the Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate. However, Car & Driver‘s design boss stated at the beginning the month that this is not likely to happen.
We won’t see the SVR badge on an XF sedan, and there won’t even be an XE SVR. Why? Why?
John Edwards, SVO boss, stated at the Los Angeles Auto Show that plans are in place to launch more SVR-badged models. There will be at least one new SVO model launched each year in the near future. This plan also includes faster versions for Range Rovers. Our guess is that the Velar will be the first to produce such a powered-up variant.
Jaguar could change its mind and release an M5-rivaling XF SVR. Logic tells us that it would have a supercharged 5.0 liter V8 engine. It produces 575 horsepower and 516 pounds-feet (700 Newton-meters of torque) in the 2018 F-Type SVR.
Jaguar should at least make a move away from SUVs and release a limited edition hardcore model in the same vein of the 592-horsepower XE SV Project 8 which is currently the fastest production sedan at Nurburgring.
