An unfortunate accident brought down a legend in motorsports of the 1990s.
The Jaguar nameplate is a must-have for all those who love British motorsport or racing in general. It is a legend in professional racing from the ’90s, created by British automaker Tom Walkinshaw Racing for the IMSA Camel GTP and World Sportscar Championship Group C.
This year, the Goodwood Hillclimb saw one of the XJR racecars make an appearance with Justin Law from Don Law Racing at helm – a nostalgic sight which aims to replicate what Law did a decade ago at the same event.
Law was involved in an unfortunate accident at the Timed Shootout. But, that didn’t happen. We have embedded the live stream video above this page, but there isn’t much information about the crash at Goodwood Festival of Speed. The crash can be seen after Alex Ames’ Porsche 962C race.
The footage shows Law losing control of his car at one point during the climb and spinning around to hit the haystack. Law appears to have been unharmed despite the fact that the race car suffered a lot of damage. However, in-cabin footage shows Law still looking good.
Law set a record of 44.19 minutes in 2009 with a Jaguar XJR-8/9 powered by a 7-liter V12 engine.
Law was well on his way to setting another record at Goodwood Hillclimb using an XJR-12D – a direct evolution of the Le Mans-winning XJR-9. Goodwood documentation shows that Law ran his first run in 46.9 seconds on Friday.
Law would have enjoyed another great climb if it weren’t for the accident. But he is relatively healthy and can return next year to try again.
