It’s a strange way to mount a hardtop onto a vehicle.
Jannarelly introduced the hardtop to the otherwise topless Design-1 in December. However, the company has waited to reveal the strange way that the roof works until now. The top of most roadster would simply be placed or folded into the rear for vehicles such as the Mazda MX-5 Miata RFR. Jannarelly’s design is tilted forward to make it easier for passengers to access the low-slung vehicle.
Design-1’s removable hardtop is designed in a way that transcends traditional panels. This piece replaces the standard roadster’s stubby windshield that has no A-pillars. The roof’s rear end is secured by a crosspiece that mounts between the nacelles. It opens up to resemble a fighter jet.
We are intrigued by the roof’s design and can’t wait for it to be in person. These images don’t show how to open the windows. This could make the cabin very hot in the summer. It is also unclear how simple it would be to take the top off the hinges at the front and open the top again.
The Design-1 is a small sports car with affordable prices. The price for a true roadster starts at $55,000. It has a 3.5-liter V6 from Nissan. This engine produces 304 horsepower (227 Kilowatts) as well as 274 pound-feet (371 Newton meters) of torque. The firm claims that the car can reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in just four seconds.
Anthony Jannarelley designed the roadster’s shape. The body is made of a mixture of carbon fiber and fiberglass. The chassis beneath is a tubular steel space frame and structural aluminum panels.
Jannarelly reported that it had 20 orders for its roadster in June 2016. Recent Facebook posts show several cars in different stages of assembly. The model is currently available in Dubai and Europe via Marcassus Sport, Toulouse, France. The Design-1 will eventually be sold in the United States by the company.
