Redeye, a 797-horsepower Redeye, is biting at Demon’s heels.
It was only a matter time before the 2019 Dodge Challenger Redeye, which is finally rolled off the assembly line made an appearance on Jay Leno’s Garage. It is not hard to see Leno’s love for the Challenger. Leno was the first to purchase a Challenger in 2008, when Dodge reinstated the iconic nameplate. That one was eventually sold to charity. Dodge has been updating, improving, and extending the Challenger’s aging platform since 2008. It almost seems that Dodge lives by the motto “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix.” Dodge seems to be able to take the Challenger and its platform up to new heights every year, and the past few years have been phenomenal.
The Demon is a hot topic, but the launch of the Hellcat Redeye is gaining attention. The Redeye bridges the Hellcat’s 717 horsepower and Demon’s 840-hp Demon. It produces a powerful 797 hp, and 707 lb-ft of torque via its supercharged V8. It does not have many track-ready upgrades like the Demon, which makes it a more comfortable daily driver. A 797-hp coupe might be considered someone’s daily driver, however.
The Redeye can still make a statement at the track despite not having Demon power. It can reach 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds, while running a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at 130 mph. The top speed is 203 mph.
Leno discusses the Redeye and other high performance Challengers with Steve Beahm (Head of Passenger Car Brands at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles-North America). Before heading out on a wild drive, the two explore the Redeye’s unique characteristics.
