Jeep is aware that Wrangler owners love to customize their vehicles by adding lights, lift kits and trail-ready tires. The company plans to expand the Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio, where both vehicles are made.

According to the Toledo Blade Jeep bought the former Textileather/MedCorp properties in North Toledo near the existing Assembly Complex for $1. The local government has a conditional buyback option. The office of Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz stated that the low purchase price was an “incentive” for FCA to invest, which is estimated to reach $23 million after all the work is done.

According to reports, an “outside supplier”, will manage the facility of 250,000 square feet and employ 300 people. Jeep factory backing is also available. Mopar would be FCA’s preferred candidate. Customers will have more customization options for all Jeeps, not just Wrangler or Gladiator. Buyers may be able make their Jeeps look like past Gladiator designs, such as the JT Scrambler and the Flatbill shown here.

“The legendary Jeep brand has a special relationship and history with Toledo, and all its residents. “We appreciate the consideration given to this proposal by the city council and would like thank the mayor’s office and the city of Toledo for their efforts,” Kevin E. Frazier, FCA spokesperson, told the Toledo Blade.

Jeep has not provided any details about the new facility beyond those comments. It’s also unclear when the space will open officially and start customization. In the coming months, expect more information from the company about the new facility.
