Jeep Confirms the Twin-Turbo I6 Motor For The Grand Wagoneer

It is listed as an engine

Sometimes, automakers hide new stuff in plain sight. This is exactly what’s happening with Jeep right now, in particular the online configurator Grand Wagoneer. You’ll see an “engine upgrade” option for $2,000. Curiously, there is no information on the engine. However, there is a photo that shows the engine in plain sight, although it’s low resolution. This confirms long-standing rumors of a boosted six-cylinder engine.

Although there is no description of this engine, the photo clearly indicates a DOHC-inline design. The engine cover clearly shows the twin turbo words. We also can see small turbochargers at the sides. This photo doesn’t prove that there are six cylinders. Three banks of six ribs are on the engine cover. This is almost certain to be a homage to six pots. It doesn’t clearly refer to 12 or 18.

We caught a leak from Stellantis at the end of 2021 about this engine. Stellantis’ website had a short section devoted to the Saltillo Engine Plant, Mexico. It listed a 3.0-liter GMET6-HO engine. Although the leak didn’t include a horsepower rating, production was listed as beginning in November 2021. This mention was eventually removed by the website.

reported in late 2019 on a patent issued by FCA that described a new inline six engine. The engine was said to have a variety of power options. It could be as powerful as 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts). This engine is expected to replace the Hemi V8 in many applications, including the performance-oriented Dodge Charger or Challenger.

We looked at other Jeep models as well as those with Dodge or RAM, but we didn’t find any mention of an unknown $2,000 engine upgrade. The Grand Wagoneer will receive the new twin-turbocharged I6. This configurator discovery suggests that an official announcement about the engine is just weeks away.
