Jeep Grand Cherokee with Three Rows First-Time

It will slot between the regular Grand Cherokee or the Wagoneer.

Jeep has enjoyed a great deal of success thanks to the growing popularity of SUVs, nearly doubling its sales in the past decade. But, it’s not the first time that a three-row SUV has been added to its lineup. Three new three-row SUVs from Jeep are coming in the next months. Our spy photographers captured one of them, a three-row Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will slot between the regular Grand Cherokee, and the Wagoneer. It is expected to arrive in the next year.

The new three-row Grand Cherokee will be riding on Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform. The automaker will likely offer an updated Pentastar V6, a 3.0-liter inline six, and a mild hybrid system to replace the 5.7-liter Hemi V8. At some point, a plug-in hybrid engine and a turbodiesel engine will also be available.

An SUV with a third row could have a larger rear overhang which could limit its off-road abilities. Our spy photographers claim that at least one trim would get the “Trail Rated”, badge, and that the model would look similar to the Dodge Durango.

Although three three-row SUVs sound like a lot, each one would be able to compete against a different set of rivals. The Wagoneer would be competing with the Ford Expedition, GMC Yukon and Ford Expedition. However, the Grand Cherokee’s three-row version would be up against SUVs such as the Toyota Highlander or Ford Explorer. The Grand Wagoneer, which is larger and more luxurious, would be able to compete with the Land Rover Range Rover or Lincoln Navigator.

We are not sure what we can expect inside. We don’t know what to expect inside. Jeep is updating the Grand Cherokee regular model. The next-gen Grand Cherokee was captured by our spy photographers. It is likely that Jeep will reveal it this year. If not, we should have a better idea of the next-gen Grand Cherokee out and about.
