It will debut in the next year.
The Jeep Renegade was launched in Brazil in 2015, and redesigned in 2018. A second half-life update is planned for the model before the next generation. These changes will give the model a new look, and will be accompanied with the long-awaited Turboflex engine of 1.3-liter. This will bring the SUV in line with its main competitors.
A reader sent in new spy photos showing the prototype hiding crucial details. Despite all the camouflage, you can still see new front and rear bumper designs, as well as other changes. The grille has been modified in subtle ways and there is a new option for wheel designs. New styling is also applied to the headlights, which integrate the position lights.
We expect significant changes to the instrument panel and dash in the cabin. The infotainment panel will be a floating screen that sits on top the dash. It is the same position as the Commander and Compass models. Jeep will also be rearranging the vents to a lower position in this updated crossover. A new steering wheel design will be available for the Renegade, which is similar to that in the new Compass.
The arrival of the turboflex engine, a 1.3-liter unit, is the big news. This engine is a favorite powertrain in Stellantis and powers the Compass, Commander and Fiat Toro. When fueled with ethanol, it can produce up to 185 horsepower (137kilowatts). In its simplest form, it will be front-wheel drive with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Renegade’s new engine is yet to deliver the promised performance.
It will be launched sometime in 2022, and it will arrive as a 2023 version. The old 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine will be retired. The 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine, which produces 170-horsepower (126 kW), will not be modified. The Renegade’s most costly versions will come with a nine speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
