The latest Wrangler, all the same looks but with a bed in your back to carry all your stuff.
A small pickup will be returning to Jeep’s lineup next year. It is being referred to as the Scrimbler. Although spy photos and videos give a good idea of what to expect from the truck, Motor1.com’s Italian counterpart gives a better idea.
The Scrambler will be sharing much of its looks with the most recent Wrangler . The body will only be offered in a four-door configuration, with a shorter bed at the back. Jeep would also offer a folding softtop, similar to the Wrangler. This makes the Scrambler the first convertible pickup available in the United States in many years.
The Wrangler will also share some of the Scrambler’s powertrain lineup. At minimum, the truck will be offered with the turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the entry-level 3.6-liter V6. The future 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine V6 of the Wrangler and the plug in hybrid powerplant are both possible options. There are two transmission options: an eight-speed automatic and a six speed manual. The Rubicon model would have more off-road capabilities thanks to locking differentials, sway bar disconnect, and other parts.
Jeep will rebuild its Toledo, Ohio factory to produce the Scrambler. Production of the pickup is expected to begin in April 2019. This will most likely lead to a market launch within a few months.
The Scrambler’s boxy, retro appearance will give buyers an alternative to the other midsize pickups in the market. Jeep’s entry is a departure from the traditional truck looks of the Chevrolet Colorado and Toyota Tacoma.
