Later, Dodge and Ram will also use it.

Jeep unveiled its first all-electric vehicle a few weeks back. It will arrive in Poland early next year. In 2024, two more electric sport utility cars will be available. However, this doesn’t mean that the brand isn’t investing in new combustion engines. According to a new report, Jeep will launch a brand-new inline-six engine in just a month.

MoparInsiders has the latest news. It claims that the new six-cylinder mill would be revealed at the 2022 New York International Auto Show (April 15-24). The engine is internally known as the GME-6. It will be part of the Stellantis Global Medium Engine family. It will be the first inline six engine in a Jeep since December 2006 when the famous AMC 4.0-liter straightsix was discontinued.

Our source claims that the new unit will come in three power levels and can be fitted in different Stellantis products. According to reports, the most powerful variant will be available first for Jeep’s Wagoneer model. The engine will have a displacement 3.0 liters. However, we are not sure what output options will be offered once it goes on sale.

MoparInsiders claims that a plug-in hybrid with the GME-T6 engines will be available next year. This setup will feature an inline-six engine mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which has an integrated high voltage motor-generator of 134 horsepower (100 megawatts). The conventional alternator will be replaced by an eTorque, high-voltage, liquid cooled motor-generator.
