The hybrid model is almost identical to the original Wrangler model, which will please Wrangler enthusiasts. Jeep has not yet provided any details about the WranglerPHEV’s powertrain. However, the engine that will be used to drive the Wrangler PHEV is the model’s 3.6-liter V6. According to the company, the electrification technology is located under the vehicle, between the exhaust and driveshaft. Some of the hybrid components will be manufactured in-house by the company at a location near Toledo, Ohio’s Wrangler assembly plant.
These photos show Jeep’s development of the PHEV powertrain for the four-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It’s unclear at this point if the electrified powertrain will only be available to the larger Wrangler or if it will also be available for the Wrangler Unlimited. Jeep has not yet discussed the possibility of a hybrid system for the Wrangler pickup, which is mechanically identical to the Wrangler.
