Two names could soon be given to the small crossover from Jeep’s rich heritage.
UPDATE: Jeep representatives told us that the company has not “made any announcements about this, and cannot comment on future products.” Although it isn’t an explicit denial that the Jeepster exists, it is not confirmation.
The small crossover will get some niceties inside, including remote start, keyless access, and a Uconnect infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Bright-finished speaker grilles with contrast stitching and unique cloth upholstery are some of the visual upgrades.
The Jeepster special edition costs $1,895. Mopar Insiders states that it is now available. Many companies, including Jeep, offer options that allow users to “customize their vehicle” with just one checkmark. This is often a cheaper option than selecting each feature individually. This is likely to be the case for the Jeepster. The Renegade Sport has Uconnect and passive entry for $795 each and 17-inch wheels in an $1,095 appearance package. 19-inch wheels are not even available.
The name of the package has raised eyebrows, however. The 1948-1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster, a two-wheel-drive fashion statement that featured the Willys Station Wagon powertrain and distinctive roadster styling, was the original 1948-1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster. Its next iteration came in the form of the Jeepster Commando of the 1960s and 1970s, competing with the Ford Bronco and International-Harvester Scout with 4×4 capability and a variety of body configurations. A funky concept car in the 1990s saw the Jeepster transformed into an open-top, two-seat sports car. It had an adjustable suspension that made it a trail-dominating runabout.
