Jeepster Name Will Return for A Special 2020 Jeep Renegade
Two names could soon be given to the small crossover from Jeep’s rich heritage.

UPDATE: Jeep representatives told us that the company has not “made any announcements about this, and cannot comment on future products.” Although it isn’t an explicit denial that the Jeepster exists, it is not confirmation.

The 2020 Jeep Renegade may soon come with a special edition that pays homage to one of the most iconic historical products of the brand, the Jeepster. Mopar insiders states that the Jeepster will primarily build on the Sport entry level trim but add cosmetic upgrades to give it some visual punch, without the need to upgrade to more expensive Renegade models.Jeep is yet to confirm this (the photo above is of a Limited-model Jeepster), but Mopar Insiders reports the Jeepster will receive 19-inch wheels in dark silver and gloss black trim for its grille. The Jeepster edition will come in Colorado Red and simple black. There will also be three unspecified custom colors. Unique door decals bearing Jeepster’s name will complete the modifications.

The small crossover will get some niceties inside, including remote start, keyless access, and a Uconnect infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Bright-finished speaker grilles with contrast stitching and unique cloth upholstery are some of the visual upgrades.

The Jeepster special edition costs $1,895. Mopar Insiders states that it is now available. Many companies, including Jeep, offer options that allow users to “customize their vehicle” with just one checkmark. This is often a cheaper option than selecting each feature individually. This is likely to be the case for the Jeepster. The Renegade Sport has Uconnect and passive entry for $795 each and 17-inch wheels in an $1,095 appearance package. 19-inch wheels are not even available.

The name of the package has raised eyebrows, however. The 1948-1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster, a two-wheel-drive fashion statement that featured the Willys Station Wagon powertrain and distinctive roadster styling, was the original 1948-1950 Willys-Overland Jeepster. Its next iteration came in the form of the Jeepster Commando of the 1960s and 1970s, competing with the Ford Bronco and International-Harvester Scout with 4×4 capability and a variety of body configurations. A funky concept car in the 1990s saw the Jeepster transformed into an open-top, two-seat sports car. It had an adjustable suspension that made it a trail-dominating runabout.

The Renegade Jeepster is nothing more than a bunch of accessories that were thrown together and then thrown in the order books. It would have been nice if it came with a MySky removable panel or a panoramic sunroof. It’s an attractive option pack. It leaves a lot to be desired as a Jeepster.
