Kat DeLorean Seymour is outraged at the apparent connection between DeLorean’s legacy and the Alpha5.
The Alpha5 EV coupe is DeLorean’s return to the future. Italdesign, a renowned design firm, has created the Alpha5 Electric Vehicle. It features styling elements that nod to the original DMC-12.
While the design connection between Alpha5 and the original DMC-12 is being discussed by the world, there is one person who has strong opinions about the new DeLorean vehicle. It’s Kat DeLorean Seymour. She is the daughter of John Z. DeLorean.
DeLorean Smyour actually vented her frustrations on Instagram and a rendering of a coupe which isn’t the DeLorean Alpha5 EV.
@deloreanmotorcompany Is not John DeLorean’s Company. DMC is not 40-years old and is not associated with my father’s legacy or the DeLorean family. Stop lying now and stop talking about John. He despises you.
The DeLorean Heritage website provided the rendering for the Instagram post. Angel Guerra and Allan Portilho created the tribute design to pay tribute to the beautiful Delorean car. They also showed what it would look like if it was built today.
DeLorean is involved in the project to “spread her powerful positive impact on this world that his cars had on it what she believes is the true Delorean Legacy.”
The Delorean Motor Company, as it is known, is not an official descendant from the company John Z. DeLorean established in the 1970s. However, it is a continuation of DeLoreanOne, which Stephen Wynne established in 1985, after John Z. DeLorean filed bankruptcy in 1982. In 1995, the company was renamed DeLorean Motor Company.
You will find the About Us section on site:
Wynne and DeLorean Motor Company purchased the Columbus, Ohio DeLorean parts inventories and exclusive distribution rights. They also acquired the company records, tooling and engineering drawings.
According to the website, after the closure of the DeLorean factory, Northern Ireland, in 1983, a Columbus-based company purchased the “remaining inventory, some tooling and a complete set of engineering drawings and other company documents.”
Evidently, John Z. DeLorean and his kin are in dispute with the current DeLorean Motor Company. While it is unclear where this issue will lead, one thing is certain: the company that produced the DeLorean Alpha5 was not affiliated with the DeLorean family.
For comment, we have reached out to a representative of DeLorean Motor Company. Once it becomes available, we’ll update the story.
