Ken Block Makes 1,400-Hp Hoonicorn Mustang Dance Up Pikes Peak

Block’s windshield view is dominated by the turbos

Ken Block is back and this time, he uses the upgraded Hoonicorn from Pikes Peak, for a fast, smoke-filled sprint up the famed course. Block may not set a new mountain record, but he makes one of the most beautiful runs.

A Roush-Yates-prepped, 6.7-liter V8 pumped out 845 horsepower (630 Kilowatts) as well as 720 pound-feet (975 Newton meters). The latest Block’s custom drift car has two turbochargers that vent vertically from the hood. It also runs on methanol. It produces 1,400 horsepower (1,043kW).

Block stated that “this car is insane” in Toyo’s announcement of the run. “I feel like it wants to kill me!” It was my favorite car before we added twin turbos. It’s still a fun car to drive, but it can melt tires extremely quickly.

Block uses every single one of the ponies to get up Pikes Peak. Block quickly gets the tires to smoke and they remain that way for the majority of the run. Block looks for open spots along the course that he can perform high-powered donuts. He even finds an area where a helicopter is about to takeoff.

Block takes more risks as he climbs higher up the course. Block once hung the rear end so high that the Hoonicorn’s bumper was hanging above the mountain. To push a car this close to the edge requires incredible car control and courage.

Block also manages to slide his rear edge along a guardrail, without damaging the Hoonicorn fence. It looks like there isn’t enough space to accommodate your hand between the barrier and the car.
