Lucy and Lia Block drive Ford Fiestas to Ken’s WRC-spec Hyundai.
Ken Block enjoyed a long and successful career in rallycross and stage rally racing. He started at an age when most rally drivers are retiring and won 16 events in the Rally America series. He also participated in the World Rally Championship. Block is best known for his Gymkhana performances. But this weekend, you can find him back in a rally car competing in the American Rally Association Rally at 100 Acre Wood.
You’ll find Ms. Block also racing there. There will also be Ms. Block. Wait, what?
The Block family seems to enjoy getting sideways in dirt. We have seen Ken’s teenage daughter Lia go through the drifting trials. She mastered the Hoonicorn in a series drag races. She doesn’t have her driver’s licence yet. Ken Block posted on Facebook that Lia would be racing this weekend with her learner’s license. This is what kind of parenting? It’s parenting done right. her parents will be racing with her.
Ken’s wife Lucy has also signed up to the weekend rally and will be driving a Ford Fiesta Rally3 vehicle. Although we don’t have the exact power output of this version, Rally3 spec is an all-wheel drive vehicle with horsepower typically in the 220 range. Lucy is in the same category with her husband, Open 4WD. Ken is driving a WRC-spec Hyundai i20 – his current relationship to Audi doesn’t include racing – and he has also won seven of eight races at this event. He has a clear advantage in this event, we think.
Lia will be racing on the same stages with her parents, but she won’t compete directly. Her Fiesta R2T is turbocharged, but it only turns the front wheels. This puts her in the Open 2WD category. We believe she is capable of driving the Fiesta based on what we have seen of her on the drift pad and behind the wheel the Hoonicorn Mustang (1,400 hp).
The Rally of the 100 Acre Wood will be the second event of the 2022 ARA Season. Although it is not clear if any of the Blocks will be returning for future events, the Facebook post indicates that all three are interested in winning it.
