Ken Block’s New Gymkhana Car is an Audi S1 EV Concept – Hoonitron

Audi built this unique electric race car in four weeks.

We knew it was coming. Not just from recent teasers. A new Gymkhana-focused racecar was unavoidable when Ken Block, rally racer and Gymkhana expert, announced his partnership with Audi. It is not clear if anyone thought it would be a legitimate Audi concept car. This is exactly what we have. This one-of-a-kind creation is called the – deep breathe – Audi S1 Quattro Hoonitron. It is based on the iconic Sport Quattro S1 Pikes Peak racing car, which it bears its name. This is not a modified version, but it’s an entirely new machine that was designed from the ground up for modern all-wheel-drive. There’s no turbocharged inline five engine underneath. Although it is all-electric, there is not much information available about how much power it produces.

It was completed in just four weeks. Although this is usually a lengthy process, the Audi designers were thrilled to be part. Many designs were created using the S1 as a base. The winner sketch was then created in a computer and it went straight into a full-scale model. This is primarily what you see in the video. Also, footage of the final Hoonitron. Block apparently has also driven the car. Although it is not clear if there will be any live-action videos, Block stated that he was “thrilled” by the first test drives. This is a good thing, as this car will be his next Gymkhana project called Electrikhana. It will be interesting to see if he does a full-out performance, since he isn’t driving a modified rally vehicle with roots in production cars. This concept was created by Audi and is very valuable.
