Automakers have begun to shift their focus from the Detroit Auto Show to the March Geneva Motor Show. Land Rover already teased the Range Rover SV Coupe, and now Kia is keen to reveal the GT Line specification for its Rio supermini.

The new Rio GT Line, like the other members in the GT Line family (Picanto Sportage, Optima and Sorento), is essentially a visual pack that gives the B-segment hatchback a sportier exterior look. This version gets the familiar, four-point LED fog lights (the “ice cube”) and 17-inch alloy wheels. Kia also has some glossy black accents, a chrome trim window and twin exhaust tips.

The interior is essentially the same as the Rio models. However, it features black synthetic leather and cloth upholstery (with gray stitching), metallic accents and a carbon-fiber look for the dashboard. The flat-bottomed, leather-clad steering wheel is adorned with the “GT Line” badge.

The new Kia Rio GT Line will be available with the same engines as the other trims. This means that buyers can choose from either the 1.25-liter or 1.4-liter gasoline engines, as well as the turbocharged three-cylinder unit. This unit has a 1.0-liter displacement, and generates 118 horsepower and 171 Newton-meters (126 pounds-feet) torque. It is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission. A seven-speed dual-clutch option will be offered beginning in the third quarter 2018.

The Rio GT Line, Kia’s answer the Ford Fiesta ST Line or the Volkswagen Polo R-Line is basically a Kia supermini. It allows people to purchase a supermini that looks sporty and doesn’t require them to pay the high price of a hot hatch.
