The megacar manufacturer doesn’t find SUVs exciting.
Christian von Koenigsegg was the one who put the final nail in the coffin by offering a Koenigsegg SUV in 2016. Even after the launch in 2016 of the Gemera, the first four-seat megacar from the company, Christian von Koenigsegg’s sentiment hasn’t changed. Christian isn’t a big fan of high-riding, but he doesn’t deny the possibility of having some fun with them. Christian spoke with Misha Charoudin on YouTube and stated that the idea of a Mad Max-style Gemera excites him.
Christian believes a high-performance SUV was an “oxymoron.” Charoudin, 27:52, said that “you create something that should behave poorly, then you try and fix it,” which doesn’t appeal to him. Christian prefers to make “cars that I like”, which have a “sporty behaviour.” The SUV’s high ride height, elevated center of gravity and large heavy wheels and tires are all obstacles to Christian achieving this “sporty behavior.”
A raised Gemera could be used as a compromise. This model would still be able to perform on the streets, but it would also allow the driver to enjoy the dunes. Christian described a Mad Max-style vehicle that he envisions. This conjures up images with meaty tires, brash guards and a touch of lawlessness. A Koenigsegg with beefier tires, a higher suspension would be a hit.
The first four-seat megacar from Koenigsegg boasts impressive performance credentials. The company combines a 2.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, three-cylinder engine with three electrical motors. They produce 1,700 horsepower (1.268 kilowatts), and 2,581 poundfeet (3.500 Newton-meters), of torque. The car can reach speeds of 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 1.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 249 MPH (400 kph). This sounds like a lot of fun for off-roading on the dunes.
