How far has Ferrari come in 11 years?
The Enzo was unveiled at the 2002 Paris Motor Show by Ferrari. It marked the beginning of a new era in Ferrari’s history. The F140B engine was the first in a new generation of Ferrari V12s. It also influenced other supercar variants, such as the Ferrari hybrid hypercar and the Ferrari LaFerrari .
How would the Enzo fare against the next generation of V12-powered hypercars from Ferrari’s stable, particularly the LaFerrari, given this information? With 11 years between the two cars, what is Ferrari’s progress in engine and vehicle development when the LaFerrari uses hybrid technology as well?
The U.K.-based website CarWow put the hypercars in a drag race to settle their differences. The Enzo is a lot older than the LaFerrari, but it can still accelerate and brake well. Let’s take a look at the numbers below.
The Enzo is a Formula One-powered car that has already achieved huge results in 2002. The naturally-aspirated V12 of 6.0-liters can produce 651 horsepower (485 KiloWatts) as well as 485 pound-feet (657 Newton-meters) of torque. This allows the car to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.14 seconds. It is also very light at just 3,260 pounds (1.480 kilograms).
The LaFerrari is powered by a 6.3L V12, which produces 789 horsepower (588 kW) as well as 516 lb/ft (700Nm) of torque. The mild hybrid system allows the LaFerrari to produce a combined output power of 950 horsepower (708 kW) with 664 lb/ft (900 Nm). The LaFerrari weighs in at 3,495 lbs (1.585 kg) and is slightly heavier than the Enzo.
The differences are not only astronomical in age but also when it comes to drag racing. You can see the difference over 11 years in the video at the top of the page.
