Next year’s 24 Hours of Daytona will see the debut of racing.
Lamborghini has now introduced an update to the GT3-spec race car. The new Evo was unveiled at the Nurburgring round of Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. It is an evolution of the Huracan GT3, who won the Rolex 24 at Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and 12 international titles.
The Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s motorsport division designed the Huracan GT3Evo. It benefits from a variety of aerodynamic tweaks that were developed over the course a more than a year with the help of Dallara. The front splitter has undergone some modifications and now has a prominent leading edge. In addition, the hood has been stripped of fiberglass to make way for carbon fiber. The new large central rib, taken from the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo increases the radiator’s cooling power.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse was able to optimize the front bumper with the help of Dallara. They created new lateral recesses and two big flicks that allowed the race car more downforce at its front axle. The back has a strong wing made of carbon fiber, with two twists at the lateral ends to maximize aero.
Apart from body modifications, the Huracan GT3 Evo also has some mechanical upgrades. The front suspension arms are no longer made of steel. They are now made using billet aluminum. At the back, there are new hubs and bearings. The changes include four-way Ohlins shock absorbers, an electronic-hydraulic power steering and a new ABS system. The familiar naturally aspirated V10 engine of 5.2-liters produces power. It now has the new camshafts, titanium valves, and the familiar naturally aspirated V10 engine.
Lamborghini has begun taking orders for the new Huracan GT3 race car. They also offer an Evo package to current Huracan GT3 owners. The 24 Hours of Daytona will host the official racing debut in January 2019.
