Rambo Lambo may live another day.
The Lamborghini Urus is not the same as the LM002. This SUV was Lambo’s first SUV. The LM002 is a Hummer-like vehicle with a rugged exterior. It emphasizes off-roading more than track prowess. That’s why it’s affectionately called “Rambo Lambo.” The Urus Off-Road package, which Lambo buyers have access to today, is the closest they can get to an LM002. However, this could change.
Interview with MotorTrend Stefano Domenicali, Lamborghini’s CEO, stated that they are looking at a rugged SUV similar to the LM002. It has been 26 years since the first LM002, and customers have been clamoring to get a new one. Some even want to purchase LM002s directly at Lamborghini. The LM002-inspired SUV could become Lamborghini’s fourth or fifth model depending on what production line the company selects.
In a separate interview, Domenicali, stated that a grand tourer with 2+2 seating is being considered. Lamborghini hasn’t approved the SUV or touring car, stating that it isn’t strong enough to invest in a fourth product. Domenicali also stated that Lamborghini must achieve 8,000 sales annually before they can introduce a new product. The CEO believes that the new product will propel the company to 10,000 units annually.
Buyers will be content with Lamborghini’s current trio of models: Aventador and Huracan. At the Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini presented topless versions of two of its most popular models. The Aventador generates 770 horsepower (574kilowatts), and the Huracan Evo Spyder generates 630hp (470kW). The Urus produces 641 horsepower (477 kW).
