In a few weeks, we might be able to see the fully-electric Range Rover.
Rumours of a fully-electric Range Rover emerged as early as last year. This was after speculation was raised following a patent filing. This report was not too far-fetched though as Jaguar, Land Rover , and HTML2_ Land Rover both have been working on electric motors for their cars, a simultaneous push to electrification (and lower emissions).
A report by U.K.’s Autocar has reaffirmed the earlier reports of a full-electric model debut in late 2021.
The publication has obtained a transcript from a conference call between JLR’s investors and JLR’s chief financial officer Adrian Mardell. He stated that the Range Rover EV, and the electric Jaguar XJ would be revealed in October and November. This is contrary to previous reports that the 2021 debut was planned for August and September.
The coronavirus pandemic is the main reason for delay. However, the delay was not related to engineering work or production. Operations were not hampered by the lockdown. Mardell stated that the company had made significant spending cuts, which contributed to the delay.
Jaguar’s new MLA platform will be the basis of both the Jaguar XJ (and possibly the Range Rover EV), The electric Range Rover is expected to be smaller than its gasoline-powered counterparts, and will look more like a wagon than an SUV. The gallery below shows our speculation.
We’ll find out in the next few weeks whether or not this report is true as October approaches. We’ll be on the ground to keep an eye out for any new developments and report them to you.
