Land Rover Defender aims to appeal to commercial buyers with a hard top model

To increase cargo capacity, the company takes out the seats.

The Land Rover Defender 90, 110 Hard Top will bring the British SUV back into production. The new model is marketed as a commercial option for customers who require an SUV that can go off-road.

To maximize cargo space, the Hard Top does not have second- or threerrow seats. The vehicle can be equipped with an optional jumpseat that allows up to three people to travel in it. According to the company, the vehicle will have a maximum towing weight of 7,716 pounds (3.500 kilograms). Towing assistance tech will be available to assist with trailer hitching and reverse.

Land Rover’s Pivi Pro infotainment software supports over-the air software updates. The Defender Hard Top also includes Land Rover’s Defender Hard Top. Customers can monitor vehicle details such as fuel level and location via a smartphone app.
Michael van der Sande (Managing Director of Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations) stated in the Hard Top’s announcement that New Defender’s cargo area will be maximized with tough materials and clever storage options.

The Hard Top is a reference the Series Land Rovers’ early models that had a removable roof. It is not possible to order a Defender with a top at the moment. This makes it difficult to choose a moniker for this version.
