We are happy that it will be treated as a star.
General Motors cut the cord on the Chevrolet Cruze in March. The booming SUV/crossover market took the economy car out of production. This also caused the death of models such as the Ford Taurus. Soon, the Fusion will join them. Although it’s sad that such models are leaving the market, we now know that the last Cruze produced will be treated as a star. Because it deserves it.
A new report from WKBN that was brought to our attention in GM Authority states that John Kufleitner purchased the last Cruze. This is a while LS sedan. He also owns a Fiat Chrysler dealership in Columbiana. The vehicle is currently on Kufleitner’s dealer lot. However, it will soon be joining his collection of important and classic cars in the industry in Salem.
Kufleitner said that he had many family members, friends, and neighbors who worked at Lordstown’s plant. Let’s face it, the plant is a part and parcel of each of us. It was my hope that it [the Cruze] would be in a Chevrolet showroom.
Mary Pipino purchased the car initially. She spent $35,000 on the car at an auction hosted by United Way. Kufleitner thought about bidding on the white sedan, but decided against it as he didn’t want to outbid local Chevy dealerships. He discovered that the car was not going to be sold to a dealer of the marque and reached out to the owner to discuss a possible purchase.
We are sorry to see the Cruze go, but it is nice to know that the small sedan will be remembered and will have a place in history. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the Lordstown Plant which could be bought by EV manufacturer Workhorse.
