Let’s count all 14 speakers in the 2020 Chevy Corvette C8

Bose has never packed so many speakers into a 2-seater car.

Chevrolet and Bose first teamed up in 1984 for Corvette C4 and have been working together since then to improve the car’s sound quality. The Massachusetts-based company has created a variety of sound systems for GM products including the CT6’s Bose Panaray which boasts 36 speakers inside.

Bose’s latest product was specifically designed for the Chevy. The audio specialist has managed 14 speakers to make the system the loudest and most powerful in a two-seater. Chevy Dude decided to film a video using all 14 speakers inside the new ‘Vette. It also shows the speakers on the door cards which are not immediately obvious.

The new sound system, which is available as an option on both the 2LT or 3LT trim levels, was developed for the eighth-generation Corvette. It features a wide-range speaker with a tweeter in each of the doors. Bose also included a 10-inch subwoofer to provide additional bass. Two additional speakers are located in the upper corners of dashboard, and another is located in the middle. This brings the total number to nine. Bose also included speakers in the B-pillars, and one final speaker between the seats at the headrest. This allows for 360 degree viewing.

ChevyDude refers to those “hidden” speakers as the aforementioned woofers. They have avoided the traditional bass box configuration because of the limited space in the C8. They use the door’s architectural as a large bass enclosure. They also have a padded surface that replaces the traditional setup with a grille to cover the woofer.

The Bose Performance Series sound system is a step above the standard Corvette 10-speaker system. It will serve double duty in the C8. The speakers will be used to transmit engine noise through its cabin. Chevy explained why he used this controversial technique in an email to Motor1.com. Although we rely on the engine to provide all the audio content, due to the multiple cavities between exhaust tips and driver, certain frequencies may be lost or need to be added.
