This is the next step in Lexus’ plan to be a lifestyle brand.
Luxury automakers don’t all offer luxurious yachts that can cruise the oceans. Technically, most of these offerings are nothing more than an automotive badge attached to an extravagantly luxurious boat made by a manufacturer that is dedicated to floating. This is not the case with the affluent Lexus-branded vessel called the LY 650.
Get your feet wet
Italian yacht design studio Nuvolari Leonard collaborated with Lexus to create the LY 650’s exterior and interior designs. You’ll notice similarities to the Lexus Sport Yacht Concept 2017 that transcend the traditional gold/silver colour scheme. Although the LY 650 measures 65 feet long, it retains the same organic shape as the concept. The concept’s composite construction is used to build the hull. It combines carbon fiber-reinforced and glass fiber-reinforced polymers for a stronger and lighter material than standard fiberglass.
Lexus commissioned Marquis Yachts, a Wisconsin-based company, to build the LY 650. This luxury cruiser is equipped with three cabins each that have their own bathrooms, from the flying bridge to its open interior. All electronic systems on the Yacht can be controlled by smartphone. Propulsion comes from two marine-spec Volvo Penta IPS 12.8 liter engines, which can produce up to 1,350 horsepower each. No Toyota-spec power, sorry Lexus fans.
Akio Toyoda, Toyota President, stated that the LY 650 represents the Lexus challenge to become a luxury lifestyle brand. On October 30, the Lexus LY 650 will go on sale. The price is a matter of concern. If you need to know, it’s one of those items you absolutely cannot afford.
