This is a sporty version of Girard-Perregaux’s three bridges desiAgn
Aston Martin has become the latest automaker partner to create a luxury watch. The company is working closely with Girard Perregaux to create a limited-edition tourbillon featuring three flying bridges. Only 18 are being made by the firm.
The watch’s three bridges can be easily seen if you look closely at them. The barrel is held in place by the upper bridge. The center supports the wheel and the bottom connects to the escapement of the tourbillon. These titanium pieces have a black PVD coating, and are polished angles.
The blue hand that acts as a running second display is located on the cage for the tourbillon, near the six o’clock position on the face. It is made up of 79 components and weighs 250 grams. It measures only 10 millimeters.
The watch’s front and back are covered in sapphire crystals that let light through, revealing the mechanical parts. For a darker finish, the case is made of grade 5 titanium and is infused with diamond-like carbon. It is 44 millimeters in width.
The rotor of most automatic-winding watches takes up a lot of the case. This timepiece, however, has a micro-rotor in gold beneath the barrel. It helps to keep the watch’s appearance airy. Girard-Perregaux inscribes Aston Martin on the case and covers it with luminescent material, which glows blue under low light. To make them incandescent, the same substance is used on their indexes as well as their hands.
The Aston Martin watch is available in a black calf leather with Girard-Perregaux Rubber Alloy technology. This uses a rubber insert that Girard Perregaux injects with white Gold.
Aston Martin and Girard-Perregaux have not yet announced a price, although it is safe to assume a six-figure sum. A standard model of the three bridges watch is available for $153,150.
